Oxford Business College has opened its first College abroad, choosing China as the preferred country.

China was an obvious choice for a number of reasons.

First, China's economy has grown by an average of 10% per annum for at least the last five years and this level of growth is set to continue.
Secondly, China is now a member of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), which will make it an even more important international player in the global market place.

Finally, there is in China the recognition and the political commitment to improve the education of the population, which is now approaching 1.5 billion people.

The above reasons, amongst many others, point to a country experiencing radical and positive change, making it an exciting and challenging place to open a new school.

Location
Oxford Business College has chosen to open the school in the Guangdong Province in SouthEast China, in Shantou, approximately a 45-minute flight north of Hong Kong. Shantou is one of five cities in China that has been designated as an Economic Free Trade Area.

Oxford Business College has joined forces with an existing school called Shantou Foreign Trade Academy, which has now been renamed Oxford Business College Shantou Education Centre. Indeed, without the vision and considerable help from the Principal of Shantou Academy this joint venture would probably not have happened.

The Future
The long-term aim is to improve the Chinese students' levels of English and then to introduce a range of university preparation courses, supported by the UK arm of the Oxford Business College. The proposal is to have a 9-month Foundation course for entry onto UK University degree courses in Business, Law or Engineering. There will also be a 6 month Pre-MBA programme as well as a 9 month Masters Qualifying Programme (MQP), both courses combining Advanced English and Case Study work in preparation for postgraduate study in the UK. For details of these courses please consult the Oxford Business website.

Oxford Business College is in discussions with a number of other Chinese Schools in various cities, such as Guangzhou, Shenzen, Xiamen, Beijing, Dalian and Harbin. It is hoped that in the coming twelve to eighteen months there will be similar Schools to the Shantou model in each of these cities.

Further afield, the College is in discussions to open similar Schools in Cyprus, Moscow, Kazakhstan and the Ukraine.
