Oxford is known as the "city of dreaming spires", a term coined by Matthew Arnold in reference to the harmonious architecture of the university buildings. The world renowned architecture and cobbled streets, has touched the imaginations of many worldwide; including T. S. Eliot, Philip Pullman and Daniel Blythe. Oxford has been the home to many great men and women throughout their studies, where its surroundings encapsulated and inspired them. Oxford has produced 26 Prime Ministers, World famous Actors and Actresses and International Business men like Richard Branson.
The River Thames runs through Oxford, where for a distance of some 10 miles it is known as the Isis. It is located some 55 miles (90 km) north west of London and 70 miles (110 km) south east of Birmingham. Most local bus services are provided by the Oxford Bus Company and Stagecoach South Midlands and include two frequent coach services to London. We also have a train station within a 5 minute walk of our College, offering services throughout the UK.
Oxford has numerous major tourist attractions, many belonging to the university and colleges. The Oxford University Colleges and their Grounds are home to some of the most impressive campuses worldwide. During summer afternoon’s many student relax in the parks, working together or taking a relaxing stroll or punting along the Thames River. As well as several famous institutions, the town centre is home to Carfax Tower and a historical themed ride, The Oxford Story. Many tourists shop at the historic Covered Market, offering a range of boutique stores and delicatessens.
The student lifestyle is second to none. It is made up of two large universities; Oxford and Oxford Brooks, as well as many other Colleges and Schools. The community spirit and social activities stretch throughout the day far into the night. Student cards are made available to our entire student base, enabling them access to only student organised activities and offers huge discount on clothes, food and travel. Our student Council, enables students to organise there own social events, sporting activities and College Campaigning, with the added bonus of also looking great on your CV!
